About Album

Warsaw was the planned debut album by the English post-punk band Joy Division, while they were briefly associated with RCA Records. Recorded in May 1978, it comprised eleven tracks now known collectively as the RCA Sessions. However, the band were disappointed with the label's post-production work and the deal fell through, the album being scrapped. Four of the songs recorded during the RCA sessions had previously been recorded at the end of 1977, and it was these older recordings that the band. I'm selling the Warsaw RZM 200 Red LP version in Mint condition. Ask me for any informations or photos

The one I have doesn't fit anywhere. It has RZM 200A/B on the left of the label, but also EG in the matrix runout (opposite to capital letters RZM200 A/B in matrix runout) . The sleeve doesn't have a small 1 mm circular print fault inside pulsar, but has WARSAW printed on the spine. Any ideas?

Why is this categorized under "Singles + EPs" on the main Joy Division page when it's clearly an album?

This just appeared (looking rather official) as a new release on Turntable Lab: https://www.turntablelab.com/collections/vinyl-cds-date/products/warsaw-warsaw-joy-division-vinyl-lp What gives?

The coolest pressing of these sessions by far. Big stretches of dead air between tracks adds to the atmosphere, as does the very contraband-looking paratext. I bought this used in 1984, so pressing is early 80s sometime.

why is this stated an unofficial release? is a part of the concerto series

Not the purported RSD release. The original double black & white vinyl RSD release was withdrawn due to matters unknown.... Apparently the record company are planning to release it anyway in the near future..... Pay no more than around 12 quid for this release.... Any more and you're being ripped off.

The issue with all these versions of the RCA demos is that there has never been an official release from a first generation analogue recording so the sound is always going to be a bit ragged, some people love the raw thin feel of these early versions, hi-fidelity they are not, but until there is a definitive stand alone release with the permission of the copyright holders/musicians the bootleggers will keep on churning them out and ultimately fans and collectors will buy them.

This is NOT a RSD release , as is being purported/listed by unscrupulous Ebay sellers .

It should have been this one but is was canceled, i don't know why exactly. : https://www.banquetrecords.com/warsaw/warsaw-%5Brsd18%5D/VP90053

It appears it was cancelled at the last minute ! ?

Which one is the RSD release? Can't find this anywhere.

Its a Compilation of the Warsaw Studio Demos from 1978-1979. The best Joy Division Album IMO. I love the raw and aggressive sound of them in this one. The later Versions of those songs (on Still for example), sound really boring and lame in comparision. They had so much energy. Of course the soundquality is bad but it makes this record sound even more raw and aggresiv. But the cover is ugly AF. :D

Since they don't allow sale here, anyone know what the value range may be for this?

I got mine for a tenner in a Camden record store.. so I'm not sure on re-sale

"I'm living in the ishhhhh age." This is a bootleg of a bootleg of a bootleg. At some point there was a needle-drop of a bootleg vinyl version, with a really worn out needle, and this is mastered from a CD bootleg version of that!

Incredible sound for this kind of a record. Also, even if it's not limited (at least not 1,000) ,it's a real must have for JD fans. Highly recommended

It would be interesting to know the "truth" with regard to this. Clearly there are issues with the listing. Under Barcode and Other Identifiers there are two variants listed. This would explain the other anomaly regarding the listing's stated limited release of 1000 when it is apparent that there are currently 1967 people claiming to own it. This figure will only increase because it is still available to purchase new/sealed in retailers. The one I bought yesterday is "Variant 2" which suggests to me that if there ever was a genuine limited release, then it would be "Variant 1". Whoever listed this originally probably didn't list two variants and a second variant has been edited in by another contributor. I suspect that the second variant is a reissue and needs clarification, particularly in current markets where a genuine ltd edition copy from 2007 would command a significantly higher value than one which can still be bought new today!

There's some heavy sibilance/distortion on the "ssss" sounds, which to my knowledge only occurs with vinyl, either because it was mastered poorly or is played back with a worn needle. And it is definitely not coming from my stylus, so there had to be a needle-drop somewhere in the provenance of this recording. Also the bass is so overblown on some tracks that I need to turn it down a bit. Those issues aside, it still sounds pretty good for a bootleg. A must for Joy Division fans.

This bootleg also comes with on a pressing with dark purple labels.

This is a fantastic pressing in terms of sound quality, especially for a bootleg. "The Drawback" is a little quiet, but other than that, the rest of the tracks are in phenomenal shape. I love how crisp "They Walked In Line" is, as I never have heard a digital version of the song that sounds remotely close in terms of sound quality to the version on this album. This Warsaw bootleg is a must for Joy Division fans, complete with early demos of several hit tracks in beautiful audio quality, as well as tracks from the "The Warsaw Demo" on the second side. I am quite curious to know the actual number of albums released under this pressing. Vinyl Passion states 1000 were pressed on 180-gram vinyl, but I doubt this as nearly 1300 Discogs users claim to have it and it's a very readily-available album sold online for a low price.

Plus it's a 2007 release, and Amazon.com has "Only 16 left in stock." Lol.

Funny that it says above that there were 1000 pressed yet 1102 Discoggers claim to have this!

I was thinking the same lol

Any idea what this is worth? Missing tacked-on tracklist from cover, but green "Warsaw" stamp clearly visible.

Any reviews on sound quality?

The same outfit that did the 200 below also did literally 20 or 30 in a pretty poor attempt at multi colour vinyl-basically clear vinyl with other colours transposed over.

Forgot-also a German issue with light brown front and back insert copies of the original cover in clear/red/and a mixture of the two vinyl.Very limited issue of maybe 200.

Very first issue came from a UK/US collaboration with shiny black sleeve and extra EP in 1981 or so.This was soon copied in the USA with a matt sleeve and somewhat down sound quality-same outfit released a Picture Disc version and included it in a 3LP Box Set with Komackino and Le Terme,'. The Joy division Box File'.The original plates/sleeves were then used.in a German/US collaboration which released this set with EP in around 6 sets of colours-I had them all at one time 2 different red/yellow/blue are all I can remember now and the EPs were also in these colours.Sound quality was up with the original issue There was an Australian copy 3 years later but with a totally different sleeve and that was about it in those first few years.

Really impressive sound quality on this pressing.I don't usually buy bootlegs or demo recordings (to be honest you may as well just download the files), but this vinyl really sounds fantastic. Not just that, but of course the music contained within is absolutely essential. Incredibly powerful, raw performances.Highly recommended, at least on this pressing.

Mine has white lables on both a side an b.Anyone eles have this?

I was delighted to find this listing and the notes, which match a copy (with 7") that I have, but I am not sure that this is in fact the first, albeit unofficial, release of the RCA and Peel Sessions. The semi-official Joy Division site states: 'The Original Warsaw bootleg, there have been many copies of this over the years. British bootleg. Black vinyl with free black vinyl 7". Black and white glossy sleeve. "Warsaw" on spine. Wide run-off grooves and the matrix number in LARGE letters. Has RZM 200A/B on the left of the label ...' See: http://www.joydiv.org/w2lp.htm Also, I have seen very recent pressings from last year (2011) or 2010 which have the RZM 200 (or 100 if 7") on the labels, so it is now practically impossible to know if you have an original c.1981 pressing. I think the version listed here is the first US copy of the original 1981 version, borne out by the US-style paper inner sleeve with the larger rounded edges. Still nice and early though, probably late 1981, the UK version being pressed/released in about May, the same time as the 'The Ideal Beginning' 7" and 12", released at the behest of the late Rob Gretton to mark the first anniversary of Ian Curtis' suicide. See: http://www.joydiv.org/warbw.htm

incredible energy incredible 80's classics with the real sound underground & raw .Afterall far far over punk & goth rock as good as the velvet the doors the stooges : yes J D was a mighty band.ian curtis & jim morrison R I P

My version has different font sizes for the text on the label and it also says Made in England.

Love the version of Transmission on this, slowed down and synthesized. Definitely worth seeking out if your a collector for this alone, although there's a degree of rawness to all the tracks (demos possibly?) making the whole package worthwhile. Also comes in clear vinyl (as does the 7" RZM100 Peel Session bootleg, although that only has a clear plastic sleeve) the copy I have having beige single sheet sleeves, the front being the unknown pleasures artwork and the rear being the tracklisting.
