About Album

Pod is the debut album by American alternative rock band the Breeders, released by 4AD records on May 29, 1990. Engineered by Steve Albini, the album features band leader Kim Deal on vocals and guitar, Josephine Wiggs on bass, Britt Walford on drums, and Tanya Donelly on guitar. Albini's production prioritized sound over technical accomplishment the final takes favor the band's spontaneous live in studio performances. On their 1990 debut album Pod, the Breeders - led by the Pixies' Kim Deal and Throwing Muses' Tanya Donelly - prove that they have more potential, and more fun, than the average side project. In fact, thanks to the album's creative songwriting, immediate production courtesy of Surfer Rosa producer Steve Albini, and clever arrangements, Pod is a fresher and more successful work than the Pixies' Bossanova and the Muses' Hunkpapa, their main projects' releases from around that time. Pod reaffirms what a distinctive songwriter Deal is, and how much the Pixies missed out on by not including more of her material on their albums. The Breeders - POD 1990. Watts-Russell suggested it would be enjoyable for the Breeders record at a studio in Scotland called the Palladium. It was a house that included a recording studio on the first floor, as well as bedrooms upstairs. The band members sometimes recorded wearing their pajamas, and more than once went to a local pub without changing into regular clothes. The studio was booked for two weeks, but the album itself took only several days to record during the remaining time, the Breeders recorded a John Peel session, and a television crew filmed a video of the band. pink f l o y d - the dark s i d e of the m o o n full album - Продолжительность: 42:58 Felipe Recommended for you. Pod is a superb and uncompromising record that not only showcases Kim's distinctive talent, but also further emphasizes how much Pixies missed out on by not allowing her much songwriting space later on. However, what stands out the most in The Breeders' debut album Pod is that, even if individually mostly every song sounds excellent, together they seem to gain an even greater strength. The flow of the album sounds so effortlessly tremendous that it's hard not to enjoy even tiny bits of Pod

Sound could really be better on this - would love a two disc remaster so the drums could punch you in the face like on the CD.

With Pixies' muse slowly dissolving around the time due to personal conflicts (or so the legend says), The Breeders were a spot on surprise (supergroup) of sorts. 30 minutes of pure sonic delight - on the surface, it may have sounded like a standard alternative rock record competing with the likes of "Bossanova" but The Breeders' experimental spirit gave the band a great big push forward. Now about to turn 30, "Pod" still shines. A timeless masterpiece.

Fenritaur
Stunning analogue sound. Drums and bass guitar are at the front of the soundstage and provide the driving force for this pressing. It thumps out of the speakers! Vocals and other guitars slightly set back but overall the balance is very enjoyable. Dynamics are incredible. I first owned this on cassette when it first came out and then CD but this pressing offers up whole sections of instrument and vocal detail that I've never heard before. Very impressed.

Sharpbringer
My copy definitely has a pressing issue - especially apparent on Metal Man, between tracks and any quieter moments. Returning and going to try one more......*fingers crossed*

Insanity
This was being sold mysteriously on the 2017 tour for $30. I nagged the merch person and they were eventually able to confirm that this was an official 4AD repress and, if I recall correctly, remaster. There's a little "Made in EU" note on the back underneath the 4AD logo. The inner sleeve is a little more matte as opposed to the gloss on the first pressings from 1990. Very clean, gorgeous pressing but it's hard to go wrong with source material like this. In addition to this, I've got an original US and a Plain reissue (not terrible, actually, but when the source material is this good to start with, it's hard to go wrong). The merch person seemed to indicate these were limited and likely not headed to stores so be happy if you snagged one of these up. Definitely the best Breeders album and so much more than that, it's simply a perfect record. Albini considers this the finest sound he ever got out of a band and while I'm no veteran of his collected works, I can't disagree.

Nirn
I just picked this vinyl up at their show in Portland on 4/10/18. Before I could get the question out of my mouth about the pressing, the merch guy said "It's not the Plain reissue!". He also thought that they were German-pressed. They were charging $25. My runout doesn't match that of initial entry. I've got 16673DE1/A&B (stamped).

Rivik
Albini's initial recording of the band put to CD which is what I assume plain's source material was.

ChallengeMine
"With source material like that you can't go wrong"? What does "source material" have to do with poor mastering? If this was true ANY Steely Dan pressing would sound decent.

Doktilar
i'm kicking myself. I also saw these for sale and asked about them. I stupidly assumed they were going to be in stores soon but this is the first time i've ever seen it mentioned by another human! I own an original pressing of POD but I've been looking for Last Splash and have stayed away from the Plain reissues (which are now out of stock).. Hoping 4AD sells some of these when their new album comes out next year.

Mariwyn
If you love this or hate this is depends on the sound. Totally Lo-Fi, disturblingly unbalanced. Loving it, you get fantastic voices, ideas and twisted melodies: best american Indi.

Skyway
Can't hardly hear any of the softer background vocals in Metal Man or Happiness is a Warm Gun. Is the Last Splash reissue terrible as well?

Nuadabandis
YES my copy was absolutely horrible right from the seal. Unplayable unlistenable. The worse record pressing plant. Men with beards is better. And that isn't saying much.

Winawel
Good to know, I feared this was the case. Will seek out an original on vinyl. Thanks.

Balladolbine
WHY HASN'T THIS ALBUM BEEN REMASTERED YET???????

Mr.mclav
Agreed. And so does the original CD pressing. Great album

BlackHaze
Because the UK vinyl sounds fantastic!

Moswyn
I agree totally with the previous review. I was hoping for decent sound quality and I'm pretty sure my 20+ year old cassette of this album sounds better. And it's such a shame cos it is a terrific album. This is just 180 grams of hiss piled over a poor mp3 quality version of Pod.

Bort
A magnificent record, a terrible reissue. Another novelty release with no regard for sound quality or source material from Plain Recordings.
